Alaska Airlines strictly adheres to TSA regulations and FAA safety guidelines regarding electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes, vapes, vape pens, mods, etc.) in carry-on baggage:
Electronic Cigarette Carry-On Rules
- Permitted in Carry-On Bags ONLY: Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices must be placed in carry-on baggage or on your person. They are absolutely prohibited in checked baggage.
- Battery Safety: All devices must be effectively protected from accidental activation. The FAA prohibits spare batteries in checked luggage due to fire risk.
- Prevent Leakage: Store devices and e-liquids in a manner that prevents leaks (e.g., inside a clear plastic bag).
- Spare Batteries: Spare lithium-ion batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage. Batteries must be protected from short circuits (individual cases/original packaging). Capacity limits per FAA rules apply.
- E-Liquids: Subject to the TSA liquids rule. Containers must be ≤ 3.4 ounces (100ml) and all containers must fit within a single, clear, quart-sized plastic bag when carried through the security checkpoint.
Strictly Prohibited Onboard
- Charging Prohibited: Never charge electronic cigarettes or their batteries onboard the aircraft. This is a major fire hazard.
- Use Prohibited: Smoking, vaping, or using electronic cigarettes anywhere onboard the aircraft (including lavatories) is strictly forbidden and violates federal law.
Important: Always check the specific regulations of your destination and any connecting airports, as local laws regarding e-cigarette possession may vary.
