Experiencing trouble with your heated electronic cigarette (e-cig)? These common issues often have straightforward fixes. Follow these targeted solutions:
No / Weak Vapor Production
- Check Battery Level & Connection: Ensure the device is sufficiently charged. Clean battery contacts and atomizer connection points with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol (dry before use).
- Confirm Tank/Atomizer is Securely Attached: Ensure it’s properly screwed onto the battery/mod.
- Adjust Wattage/Temperature: If your device allows adjustments, ensure it’s set within the recommended range for your coil/resistance. Start low and increase gradually.
- Prime New Coils: Before using a new coil, saturate its wicking material with e-liquid and let it sit for several minutes. Start at low wattage for the first few puffs.
- Inspect & Replace Coil: Coils degrade with use. If old or burnt, replace it.
Leaking & Gurgling
- Check Tank Seals & O-Rings: Ensure all silicone seals/O-rings are intact, correctly seated, and lubricated with a drop of e-liquid. Replace cracked or damaged ones.
- Avoid Overfilling: Do not fill the tank above the designated max fill line. Leave a small air pocket.
- Verify Coil is Correctly Installed & Tight: A loose coil is a primary leak source. Ensure it’s hand-tight.
- Manage VG/PG Ratio: Thin e-liquids (high PG) leak more easily than thicker ones (high VG). If leaking persists, try a higher VG liquid.
- Check Airflow Control When Filling: Close airflow vents while filling to prevent pressure imbalance.
Burnt or Unpleasant Taste
- Replace Burnt-Out Coil: A burnt taste is the most common sign a coil needs replacement. Never dry burn wicking material.
- Prime New Coils Thoroughly: Inadequate priming causes immediate burning. Follow priming steps meticulously.
- Lower Wattage/Temperature: Running power too high for the coil’s rating burns the wick. Reduce settings.
- Maintain Adequate E-Liquid: Vaping with insufficient liquid leads to dry hits. Refill before the level drops below the coil’s intake ports.
- Allow Time for Wick Re-Saturation: Chain vaping faster than the wick can draw liquid causes dry hits. Pause between puffs.
Device Not Firing
- Charge Battery: Ensure the battery/mod is charged. Try a different charging cable/adapter if needed.
- Check Atomizer Connection & Resistance: Clean contacts. Ensure the atomizer is properly attached. If resistance reads abnormally (“Check Atomizer” error), try reseating the coil or replacing it. Ensure coil resistance is compatible.
- Reset Safety Protections: Some devices lock after multiple consecutive puffs or other triggers. Turn device off/on according to manual.
- Verify Switch/Button Function: Ensure fire button isn’t stuck or damaged.
Spitting & Liquid in Mouth
- Remove Excess E-Liquid: Gently flick the device downwards (with airflow closed) over a paper towel to expel pooled liquid from the chimney/coil.
- Increase Wattage Slightly: Higher wattage vaporizes liquid more efficiently, reducing spitting. Stay within coil limits.
- Check Coil Flooding: Caused by leaks, overpriming, or chain vaping. Wipe accessible components.
- Use Higher VG E-Liquid: Thicker liquid is less prone to spitting.
- Ensure Proper Airflow: Adjust airflow settings – sometimes wider airflow reduces spitback.
Key Prevention: Regularly clean tank components, use compatible coils, handle batteries safely, and replace consumables (coils, O-rings) proactively.
