This here thing, it got me thinking. How many puffs, you reckon, in one of them cigars? I seen them fellas down at the, uh, the gas station, smoking them things. Looked like they was taking their sweet time. So I says to myself, I says, “Self, how many puffs they get outta that thing?”
Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you. But I heard tell it’s like, you take a little puff, maybe every 30 seconds, maybe a minute. Keeps it goin’ nice and slow, like. They say that’s how you get the good cigar taste, let it, uh, “develop” or somethin’. How many puffs in a cigar, you ask? Well, it depends, I reckon.

You don’t wanna be huffin’ and puffin’ like some steam engine, no sir. That ain’t how you do it. Just little puffs, gentle like. Keeps it from gettin’ too hot, I suppose. And you wanna get all that flavor, right? They say that’s the key, getting the most flavor out of your cigar. Some folks, they know all the tricks.
- They say you gotta cut the end off, just right.
- Not too much, just enough to let the air through.
- Then you light it up, slow and easy.
- And you puff, puff, puff, but not too fast!
I seen them movies, you know, the ones with the big shots, smokin’ them big ol’ cigars. They make it look all fancy, blowin’ smoke rings and whatnot. But I bet it ain’t as easy as it looks. Probably takes practice, like most things. They make a big show of it. Take a big ol’ drag that looks like it would choke a horse. Probably not the right way to do it, I am just sayin’.
Now, some folks, they like to smoke ’em real slow. They say it’s more relaxin’ that way. Others, they might puff a little faster. Guess it just depends on what you like. It’s all about enjoying your cigar, they say. How many puffs you get, well, that just depends on how long you smoke it for, and how fast you puff, I guess.
I heard there’s different kinds of them cigars, too. Some are big and fat, some are skinny. Some are strong, some are, uh, “mild,” they call ’em. I reckon the big ones got more puffs in ’em than the little ones. Makes sense, right? More tobacco, more puffs.
But you gotta be careful, I hear. Don’t wanna be smokin’ too much. It ain’t good for ya, they say. Just like anything else, I suppose. Too much of a good thing can be bad for ya. Moderation, that’s the word. You just gotta find that sweet spot, they say. Not too much, not too little, just right. Same goes for them cigar puffs, I bet.
So, how many puffs in a cigar? Well, I ain’t got an exact number for ya. But I’d say it’s a good many. Enough to last you a while, anyway. Long enough to sit back, relax, and enjoy the, uh, “ambiance,” as they say. Or just set on the porch and watch the cars go by. That’s what I’d do, anyway.
One fella, he told me you gotta hold the smoke in your mouth for a bit, let the flavor sink in. Don’t go inhalin’ it like a cigarette, he said. That ain’t how you do it with a cigar. Just let it roll around in your mouth, he says, then blow it out. Then wait a spell before you take another puff, so you don’t get no headache. Don’t want that.
I also heard you are supposed to cut the tip of that cigar off. They call it the “head”. They say you gotta be careful not to cut too much, though. Just a little snip, about a quarter inch, just enough to let some air through. Not too much, now, or you’ll ruin the whole thing, I reckon. That would be a shame.

So, yeah, that’s what I know about them cigars and how many puffs you get. It’s a whole process, it seems. Not just somethin’ you light up and smoke willy-nilly. There’s a right way and a wrong way, like most things in life. How many puffs in a cigar? A lot, I’d say. A whole lot.
