Okay, so I’ve been on this whole pen kick lately. You know how it is, you find one you like and then you gotta try them all. Well, I stumbled onto something pretty cool that I wanted to share with you guys – using those Pilot G2 refills in other pens. Yeah, you heard that right.
First off, I grabbed a bunch of G2 refills. I got the 0.7mm ones, because that’s my go-to, but I also picked up some 0.5mm ones to test them out. Started swapping them into some of my other pens. Guess what? They fit in a surprising number of them! It’s like a whole new world opened up. I mean, the G2 refills are everywhere, they’re cheap, and they write really smooth, so this is a game changer.

So I started with this cheap pen I got from a dollar store. Popped out the old refill, stuck in a G2, and bam! It worked. Then I did the same with some other pens I had lying around, it worked. I tried this one fancy pen I’ve had for a while. It’s got a nice weight to it, but the original refill was always kinda scratchy. Swapped it out, and it’s like a totally different pen now. Writes like a dream.
I went deep. I read this article online from a guy named USharpen, it’s pretty old but still useful. He was talking about the Parker-style G2 refills. Seems like they’re a bit different, but his favorite was this Jetstream Uni SXR-600. I will try to find that to see what’s that about.
Then there’s this other forum where people are all talking about which pens they like with G2 refills. Some dude was all about the Tactile Turn Mover in raw copper, said it was classy as hell. Someone else was like, “Nah, Parker Jotter all the way.” I decided to try these as well, and they fit! It turned out it was the Parker-style G2 refill that fit in the Jotter, not the Pilot G2 though, so it wasn’t a success.
My Experiments:
- Dollar Store Pen: Success! The G2 refill fit perfectly.
- My Fancy Pen: Another win! The G2 transformed it into a smooth writer.
- Tactile Turn Mover: The G2 refill fit perfectly. It was indeed very classy.
- Parker Jotter: Fail! The regular G2 doesn’t fit. It needs the Parker-style G2, which is different. I will definitely try this next time.
The thing about G2 pens is that they’re popular for a reason. The grip is nice, the clicking mechanism is simple, and like I said, you can find refills everywhere. Plus, they’re cheap. And it turns out, a lot of other pen cartridges fit too because it’s a standard size. That’s the key here, the G2 size is standard. Even different brands make refills that fit, and they have all kinds of ink, like oil-based, gel, and rollerball.
Oh, and here’s a little tip I figured out. The 0.7mm and 0.5mm G2 refills are interchangeable. Even though the tips are different sizes, the plastic tube that holds the ink is the same. So you can put a 0.5mm refill in a 0.7mm pen body, and vice versa. I tried it myself, works like a charm.
So yeah, that’s my little pen adventure. I just wanted to get this out there in case anyone else is looking to upgrade their pens without spending a ton of money. Try out those G2 refills, you might be surprised! It’s a simple thing, but it made writing way more enjoyable for me. Hope this helps somebody out there!
