So, today I messed around with my Smok Mag Solo, specifically the coils. I started by grabbing my vape and noticed the flavor was kinda off. Figured it was time to swap out the coil.
First thing, I unscrewed the tank and took out that old coil. It had these two tabs on the sides that fit into little slots in the tank. That old one was a 0.36 ohm coil, pretty beat up but still good for testing stuff. I replaced it with a brand new TA-0.2Ω mesh coil. They say it’s good for 50-70 watts, so that’s what I was aiming for.

- Unscrewed the tank – Got to get to that coil, right?
- Took out the old coil – This thing was ancient, but I kept it around for testing.
- Popped in a new TA-0.2Ω mesh coil – Supposed to be good for 50-70 watts.
After putting in the new coil, I filled up the tank with some e-juice. Made sure to use the high VG stuff, since that’s what they recommend for these coils. I let it sit for a bit to let the coil soak up the juice. Didn’t want to burn it out right away.
I started vaping at around 50 watts, just to break it in. Gradually, I cranked it up. Hit about 73 watts and it was pretty good. Flavor was back, clouds were decent. I tried pushing it a bit more with an old 0.15 ohm coil and got it up to 74 watts, but that coil is ancient. I remember that I gave up on smok coils before. But this time, it seems to be fine.
Honestly, these coils can be a pain. Sometimes they burn out fast if you don’t prime them right, or if you vape at too high a wattage, or even if you chain vape like crazy. So, I tried to be careful this time around.
In the end, I got the vape working nicely with the new coil. Flavor’s good, and it’s hitting well. I’m just hoping this coil lasts a while before I have to go through all this again.
Tips After Screwing Around
- Prime the coil properly – Let that juice soak in!
- Don’t go too high on the wattage – Stick to what they recommend.
- Avoid chain vaping – Give it a break between puffs.
That’s all I’ve done today. Just a regular day of tinkering with my vape.
