Today, I really wanted to do something different and fun in the kitchen. So I decided to make a homemade “Frozen Fruit Monster Mixed Berry Ice.” It sounds fancy, but it’s just a cool, fruity treat I whipped up with stuff I already had.
First, I gathered all my ingredients. I grabbed a bag of mixed berries from the freezer – you know, the usual strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. I also needed some sugar and a bit of cornstarch. That’s it! Simple, right?

Next, I dumped the frozen berries into a heavy saucepan. I turned on the heat to low and let the berries thaw gently. While they were warming up, I mixed about 2 tablespoons of sugar per cup of fruit. I like it sweet, but you can adjust this to your taste. I remembered reading somewhere to start with less and add more if needed, so that’s what I did.
In a separate bowl, I dissolved a teaspoon of cornstarch per cup of fruit in a little bit of cold water. This helps to thicken the mixture later. Once the berries were thawed and the sugar melted, I poured in the cornstarch mixture and stirred everything together.
I kept stirring and let it simmer for a few minutes until it started to thicken up a bit. It smelled amazing, by the way! Once it reached a nice, syrupy consistency, I took it off the heat and let it cool down.
Freezing Time
- After it cooled, I poured the mixture into a shallow container.
- I popped it into the freezer and waited. And waited.
- After a couple of hours, it was semi-frozen.
- I took it out and mashed it up with a fork to break up any ice crystals.
- Then, back into the freezer, it went.
- I repeated this a few times every hour to get that smooth, icy texture.
Finally, after a few hours of freezing and mashing, it was ready! I scooped some into a bowl, and it was perfect. Tasted just like those fancy store-bought ones, but I made it myself. It was sweet, tangy, and super refreshing. The texture was smooth, and every bite was bursting with berry flavor.
I even got a little creative and added a dollop of whipped cream on top. Why not, right? It was a hit with the family, and I felt like a kitchen wizard. This homemade “Frozen Fruit Monster Mixed Berry Ice” is definitely going to be a regular in my house, especially during the hot summer days. Plus, it’s a great way to use up those frozen berries!
So there you have it – my little kitchen adventure. It was easy, fun, and the result was delicious. If you’ve got some frozen berries lying around, give it a try. You might just surprise yourself!
