Okay, so I’ve been messing around with vapes for a while now, and I got curious about this whole “puff” thing. Like, what even counts as a puff, you know? So I started digging into it.
First, I tried just counting every time I took a drag from my vape. Sounds simple enough, right? But then I realized that sometimes I take short, quick puffs, and other times I take these long, drawn-out ones. Figured this could be a big difference.

- Started by using my regular vape pen.
- Took a puff, like I usually do.
- Then I tried taking a really short puff.
- After that, I took a super long puff.
- Repeated this a few times.
Then, I started to think, maybe the type of vape matters? So I grabbed a few different devices I had lying around. I used this old box mod that I haven’t touched in ages, and also this sleek little pod system I just got. The experience was so different with each one. Different vapes, different puffs, it felt like.
Then I tried something else. I used an app, to track my puffs. See, some of these newer vapes have Bluetooth and apps, and the app recorded each puff. That got me thinking, maybe the devices themselves have different ideas of what a “puff” is.
My Experiment
So, I decided to do a little experiment. I filled up three different vapes with the same e-liquid, same flavor, same nicotine. Then, I used each one until the battery died or the pod was empty, which is to be sure how many puffs each device could provide. I also tracked how many days each device lasted me.
Here’s what I found out. My little pod system, which is supposed to have about 600 puffs, only lasted me around two days. But, I tend to use that one more often because it’s just so convenient. My box mod, which is a beast, lasted almost a week. But I only use that one occasionally. Also, I noticed that when I took longer puffs, the devices died quicker. Surprise, surprise.
So, what’s the conclusion? Well, a “puff” isn’t as simple as it sounds. It’s not just about inhaling. It depends on the device, how you use it, and maybe even how the device is measuring it. For me, as a moderate user, I guess a device with around 500-1500 puffs is pretty decent. It’s all subjective, really. It’s kinda like asking, “How long is a piece of string?” It all depends!
