So, I’ve got this story for you, and it’s a bit of a doozy. You know I vape, right? Well, my little one, he’s at that age where everything goes in the mouth. Crawling around, exploring the world one tiny bit at a time. I try to keep my vape stuff out of reach, but you know how it is with kids. They have a sixth sense for finding the one thing they shouldn’t touch.
I was sitting on the couch, took a couple of puffs from my vape, and set it down on the coffee table. Just for a second, I swear. I turned my back to grab my phone, and the next thing I know, I hear this little cough. I whipped around, and there’s my baby, vape in hand, looking all confused. He’d managed to grab it and take a hit before I could even react.

Panic mode? You bet. I snatched the vape away, and scooped him up. His little face was all scrunched up, and he let out a couple more coughs. My heart was pounding out of my chest. I didn’t know what to do. Was he going to be okay? Was this going to hurt him?
I called my mom, my first rescue, she’s a nurse, you know. She calmed me down, told me to watch for any weird symptoms, like if he’s having trouble breathing or acting strange. She said a little bit of vape smoke probably wouldn’t do much, but to keep an eye on him.
- I kept him close, monitored him like a hawk.
- Checked his breathing, made sure he wasn’t wheezing or anything.
- Offered him some water, in case his throat was irritated.
- Most importantly, I felt like the worst parent ever.
What I did:
Thankfully, he was fine. No weird symptoms, no nothing. Just a little cough that went away pretty fast. But man, that scared me. I felt so guilty, so irresponsible. I should have been more careful. I mean, vaping around children is a big no-no, just like smoking cigarettes, and I already knew that. It can damage their little lungs and brains, and who knows what the long-term effects could be. I should not do it again, there is no safe amount of smoking or vaping around children.
After that, I went full-on safety mode. My vape, the e-juice, all of it, it’s now locked up in a drawer where he can’t reach. High up, out of sight, out of mind. I even started vaping outside, just to be extra safe. No more vaping in the house, no more chances for accidents.
It was a huge wake-up call. I know it’s my bad habit, but it shouldn’t affect my kid. They’re too young to understand the risks, and it’s my job to protect them. I learned my lesson, that’s for sure. And I hope you can learn from my mistake too. Keep your vape stuff away from kids, no matter what. It’s just not worth the risk.
Look, I know I messed up. But I’m trying to be better. We all make mistakes, right? It’s how we learn and grow. And believe me, I’ve learned a lot from this one.
