Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with my vape gear again, trying to figure out the best setup for my salt nic juices. This time, it was all about coils – mesh or regular? Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I heard a lot about mesh coils giving you a bigger cloud and better flavor, and it kind of makes sense, right? The whole point is to have a bigger surface area that heats the juice.
So, I started with my usual setup. I normally use a 1.0-ohm regular coil for my 50mg salt nic in my LV Orion Q. Works like a charm, you know? Gives me just the right amount of nicotine hit without being too harsh. I’ve heard that a 1.2-ohm coil works well too, but 1.0 is just my sweet spot.

But I was curious about those mesh coils. I got my hands on a 0.8-ohm mesh coil for my novo pod. I’d used it with 35mg salt nic before with a 1.2-ohm coil, and it was pretty good. I figured, why not try it with my usual 50mg juice? I filled up the pod, popped it in, and took a hit. The flavor was definitely there, more intense than usual. It was a bigger hit of vapor compared to my regular 1.0-ohm coil. Then I read some forums. Someone says, “0.8 is going to give you the most vapor, but because of that it’s going to give you more nicotine.” That’s make sense.
I did a bit more digging, and I found out that most people suggest using coils above 1.0 ohm for salt nics. Apparently, mesh coils can sometimes make the nicotine feel a bit harsh because they heat up more of the juice at once. Some say it can even burn the nicotine, which is definitely not what I want. They say that “The best coil for salt nicotine e-liquids is the higher resistance coil, usually rated above 1.0 ohms. These coils operate at lower wattages and provide a smoother.”
I also saw some chatter about using mesh coils with salt nics in pod systems. Some companies make mesh coils specifically for that, but it seems like a mixed bag. Some people love it, some don’t. One comment is “most vapers agree that more often than not, mesh coils cause the salt-based nicotine to feel quite harsh.” I also saw a comment on using salt nic at 50mg/ml: “You can use whatever you want to use. I use 50mg/ml salt nic in my Pasito (all coils) and Caliburn but I’m not doing show stopping rips just small stealth pulls to satisfy my wants.” It seems okay to use mesh coil for salt nic, only if you are doing small stealth pulls.
Here’s what I’ve learned from my little experiment:
- Regular coils (above 1.0 ohm) are still my go-to for salt nics. They give me a smooth and satisfying hit without any harshness.
- Mesh coils can work with salt nics, but they might feel harsher due to the increased heating area, especially at higher nicotine levels like 50mg.
- It really comes down to personal preference. Some people might enjoy the bigger clouds and intense flavor from mesh coils, even with salt nics. But for me, I’m sticking with my trusty regular coils for now.
Anyway, that’s my two cents on the mesh vs. regular coil debate for salt nics. I just want to share my experience with you guys. Hope this helps someone out there who’s also trying to figure out their perfect vape setup!
